King's Lynn 3 Kidsgrove Athletic 1
26th March 2013
King's Lynn Town showed no signs of giving up their chase for the EvoStik League title with a precious three points over Kidsgrove tonight.
Lynn's latest victory moves them to within four points of league leaders Coalville and ten points clear of Stamford, who they visit on Easter Monday, in third.
With midfielder Richard Bunting sidelined through injury, the Lynn line-up showed one change from the side which won at Chasetown last week.
James Jepson was handed Bunting's holding midfield role as a free-scoring Kidsgrove side arrived looking to dent the Linnets' promotion hopes.
Karl Espley saw his cross fizz across the face of the target and John Johnston fired just inches wide as the Lynn goal lived a charmed life in the opening 20 minutes.
Dan Quigley headed Lynn's first chance over the woodwork midway through the half before Jepson's pass found Thomson, whose scuffed effort put the hosts in front four minutes later.
Kidsgrove showed have been level shortly when James Curley blazed over from a few yards out.
The visitors were made to pay in the 35th minute when Lee doubled Lynn's advantage with a 30-yard screamer.
After their sloppy start, Lynn ended the half well on top with Dan Jacob going close to adding a third following a deft piece of skill and shot from just outside the box.
Lynn began the second half as they had ended the first with Phil Gulliver striking the post from close range.
The Walks outfit made a double change 13 minutes into the second period with Russell Dunkley and Beaumont replacing Steve Spriggs and Quigley respectively.
Dunkley had the ball in the net after 61 minutes, but his effort from a Jacob centre was ruled out for offside.
Lynn's third and final goal arrived 17 minutes from time when Beaumont converted a Jacob cross from the left.
There was still time for Kidsgrove to grab a consolation after the hosts switched off at the back and they were duly punished by Espley.
The Linnets continue their title push at home to Mickleover on Saturday.
