King's Lynn 1 Fisher Athletic 1
26th October 2002
A DISAPPOINTING first half cost the Linnets their eight-game home winning streak.
It took 80 minutes for Lynn to equalise in a game of missed chances from both sides.
Similar to last Tuesday's match at Stamford, Lynn started by lacking the hunger to beat the opposition, but unlike last Tuesday there were no tantrums to entertain the crowd.
In fact, there was only one booking, and that was given to the Fisher goalkeeper Michael Holder for time-wasting in the 89th minute.
It was a third minute header by Fisher's Daniel Fletcher after Mark Burrows had missed a cross that left the home side trailing from the very start.
Lynn had their chances, the best involving Paul Raynor who tirelessly tried to inspire his team, their only other threat being David Staff - who hit the bar - on the flanks.
Veteran midfielder Raynor's shot in the 25th minute looked to be going in, but was stopped by Holder, only to fall to the feet of Paul Watts.
His shot rebounded off the legs of Fisher's Wayne Brown, leaving the hopeful 578-strong crowd frustrated at what was probably the best scoring opportunity of the first half.
Sloppy defending nearly brought an own goal from Joby Gowshall, but Linnets keeper Dean Greygoose pulled off an amazing one-handed save.
Lynn came out in the second period and dominated the game with better passing and more shots, although the lively Londoners had breakaway chances from the tricky Danny Kedwell and sub Mike Scowen.
The Walks outfit could not take advantage of a good spell, with halftime substitute Chris Bacon going close and just failing to get on the end of a Lee Stephenson centre. When Nicky Blake came on, Staff switched to the right.
Within five minutes Stephenson after spending most of the game being caught offside, scored the equaliser from good work by Raynor and Carl Holmes.
The goal ignited the team, but with only ten minutes to go time was short to bring home the winner.
