LYNN edged further towards relegation in front of their lowest league crowd of the season on Wednesday night.Only 439 fans turned up to wee the Linnets lost 2-1 to Welling United, writes Kristina Raines.
Director of football, Kevin Boon, said earlier in the week that the Welling game was a massive one and one the team needed to win.
The first half was a scrappy affair and the Linnets fell apart defensively, with Welling scoring twice in the first nine minutes.
Welling's first goal was scored in the fourth minute after Tommy Tyne used his pace to get the better of the Lynn defence, placing the ball past advancing Lynn keeper Stevie Wilson. Lew Watts scored Welling's second in the ninth minute, heading home from close range after John Farley knocked on a Dean Standen corner.
The score was met by a stony crowd who were becoming more and more disgruntled as the game wore on.
The second period saw Lynn improve with Wayne Anderson sliding the ball past visiting keeper Glen Knight after 81 minutes.
The last few minutes saw Lynn press for equaliser, but despite several chances they failed to get the breakthrough. Lynn: Wilson, Dakin, March, Robinson, Fuff, Minett, Anderson, Hayes, P. Watts, Hudson (White 64), Clarke. Subs not used: Bush and Wright.
