GARY Mills is a happy man. The Lynn manager watched his side reach the lofty heights of' 15th position on Saturday after another good display against Nigel Clough's Burton Albion.
Mills beamed with delight after the match not only at the result but the direction he has got his club going in.
He said: “The lads are getting better and the squad is getting stronger.
“They know the incentive before every game now is a few more places up the league. I feel sorry for Bromsgrove at the moment. We had a few weeks like them at the bottom when even if you win a game you don't go anywhere.
"We've just played two home games and before them we said we wanted six points. We've got them and they have been thoroughly deserved.
Burton like to play football but so do we and we're stronger and are doing more with ball when we get it. The passion and commitment is great."
Mark Turner and Dave Puttnam grabbed the goals against Burton and for Turner it was an important goal. He had not scored since February 13 and Mills explained: “We had a chat with Mark.
“He was getting frustrated at not scoring so we told him to be a bit more disciplined and the goals will come.
“Mark and Tony Spearing were playing with injuries but did superbly and Paul Ramsey came back and did a great marking job on Nigel Clough.
“We’ve kept nine clean sheets in 15 games and that’s championship form. We want to get as high as we can.” It was another three deserved points for the Linnets, even though they had to withstand another late onslaught, something that seems to he creeping into their matches.
There were few chances in the early stages of the game but they got more plentiful after Turner gave the hosts the lead in the 33rd minute.
Dave Puttnam laid the ball across the box and Turner coolly slotted it home into the bottom corner.
Lee Wilson’s close range volley was saved by Burton keeper Nick Goodwin after good work by Micky Nuttell.
Clough was hardly in the game and his 25-yarder was comfortably dealt with by Chuck Martini a minute after the break.
David Holmes poorly executed lob was also easy for Martini and Wilson wasted a good chance, blazing over the bar.
After 63 minutes, Lynn scored another fine goal. This time the roles were reversed as Turner turned provider for Puttnam, the latter rolling his defender and slamming an unstoppable right foot shot.
Nuttell brought a brilliant save from Goodwin before Burton enjoyed their best spell of the match in the last 15 minutes.
Steve Spooner's cross-shot was acrobatically pushed away by Martini before Glenn Fuff made a crucial challenge on Holmes after Clark misjudged a header.
Ex-Nottingham Forest striker Phil Starbuck saw his well-struck early shot pushed over by Martini and Micky Cotter's effort was superbly pushed wide by the Lynn keeper.
