King's Lynn 4 Dorchester Town 1
27th November 1999
Lynn changed their formation to bounce back from conceding an early goal to run out easy victors and move into fifth place in the league.
"We were excellent," enthused Mills. "It's been a good week. We played well at Cambridge City and against Margate and again on Saturday.
"We put our chances away rather better than on Tuesday when a lot of things went begging around the six yard box."
Mills was also pleased with how his side came back after conceding a goal in the first minute. "The players responded really well," he commented. "I'd rather sides score against us in the first minute than the last minute, but we've got a great set of lads who will keep going and going.
'We played some lovely football which they couldn't cope with. 1 was really pleased. We created a lot of chances and another day we could have scored even more," he continued.
Linnets fell behind to an Andy Harris header in the opening minute when he nodded home following Chris Ferrett's run and cross.
Lynn appeared to be struggling until they changed their formation after 15 minutes from a 5-3-2 to 4-4-2 with Mills moving from left wingback into a right midfield role.
I think they had done their homework on us," Mills admitted. "We changed things to stop them getting more of the ball and it proved to be the right decision."
Lynn were twice thwarted by visiting keeper James Dungey who produced good stops to deny Dave Puttnam and Mark Harbottle before they levelled after 27 minutes.
Puttnam robbed a defender to find Lee Wilson whose low cross was converted by a stooping Lyndon Rowland.
Five minutes later and the Linnets were in front when Rowland headed down for Dave Robinson to bundle home at the far post.
Lynn increased their lead four minutes after the restart when Mills created an opening to cross for Rowland to head home his second goal.
Tony Marsden saw a shot blocked from close range before Lynn were awarded a penalty on 68 minutes after Andy Harris had pushed Rowland and Wilson stepped up to crash home the fourth.
Lynn had further chances to extend their lead with Rowland coming closest, only to see a great save from Dungey denying him his hat-trick.
