S&L Corby 1 King's Lynn 2
28th January 2012
LINNETS boss Gary Setchell saluted his side's spirit after grinding out a precious three points at S & L Corby on Saturday.
Early goals from Danny Beaumont [sic goal awarded to Jack Defty] and Jamie Thurlbourne saw Lynn on their way before the hosts pulled a goal back through Shaun Goodall on 37 minutes.
A delighted Setchell said: "We showed a lot of steel on Saturday and maybe that's where we fell down last season.
"We thought we could play our way through the UCL last season but sometimes it's about rolling your sleeves up.
"Our away form has been tip-top this year and that's a real credit to the way the players have performed. I feel that we are UCL hardened. We know nobody is going to give anything to us easily - we've got to fight for everything."
On his decision to play three players in the centre of midfield, Setchell said: "We tinkered with the team a bit to have a bit of a platform in there.
"We knew it was going to be a battle. It's a very uneven pitch with a big slope and I don't think either side strung together more than three or four passes.
"Jamie Thurlbourne was the outlet for us and he has really got back to his best recently.
"He has had two bad hamstring injuries but we have seen a big improvement in his displays recently. That will improve his confidence as well - he knows that he can be a big player for us."
