King's Lynn 0 Moor Green 1
28th August 2004
LINNETS were hit by a classic smash-and-grab raid as they fell to their second defeat in three days at The Walks.
Lynn dominated the game for long periods but failed to turn their possession into chances and were caught by a breakaway goal against a newly-promoted Moors side, who had come to defend.
Captain Dave Robinson missed the game through tonsillitis, while the influential Dave Puttnam was sidelined with a hamstring injury.
But the Linnets welcomed back Tommy Wright, who missed Saturday's defeat at Crawley with a groin strain.
Wright missed a gilt-edged chance in only the third minute when he was sent clear by Glen Fuff's through-ball, but he shot straight at Andy De Bont, who pushed the effort wide.
Jon Palmer had De Bont at full stretch seven minutes later with a shot from 25 yards as the Linnets made a bright start.
Lynn had strong appeals for a penalty turned down after 12 minutes when Lyndon Rowland was pushed in the box, but Northampton referee Ken Woolner waved away the Linnets' protest.
Palmer then missed an open goal from just two yards when he hit the post after De Bont had fumbled a Wright free kick.
Palmer glanced a header just over on 53 minutes while Gary Mills' free kick ten minutes later was blocked by the legs of De Bont.
The Linnets were made to pay for not turning their domination into goals when the Moors took the lead after 69 minutes when substitute Adrian Baddams headed home a Mark Shepherd cross at the far post in their first serious attack.
The Moors nearly doubled their lead with seven minutes remaining but Baddams saw his header hit the post.
