JOINT Town boss Kevin Boon paid tribute to Linnets goalkeeper Alex Street after the Linnets went top of the United Counties Premier Division on Saturday evening.
Street was in inspired form between the posts with a series of fine saves as Town kept a second successive clean sheet on their travels.
Boon said: "Alex Street has been absolutely magnificent for us today and all of the players were congratulating in the dressing room afterwards.
"He has produced at least three magnificent saves out there and has turned in an all-round solid display.
"Many people forget that Alex is only 19-years-old, but that performance out there was that of a man, not a young lad.
"Alex was extremely unlucky not to get a full-time professional contract with Cambridge United in the summer, but their loss is certainly our gain because King's Lynn Town are extremely lucky to have a great young keeper who has a very bright future."
Jack Defty's double separated the two sides, but Street's display and Town's defensive performance as a whole put the striker's two-goal return firmly in the shade.
Boon said: "That was probably our most workmanlike performance since Gary (Setchell) and myself came to the club.
"It was a real scrap out there today, but Alex and our back four inparticular were magnificent. We have had to roll our sleeves up, but have come through it and in doing so we have gained three very important points.
"Make no mistake about it, Peterborough Northern Star are not a bad side.
"They are an ambitious club and will take points off a lot of sides this season."
Town took the lead in the fifth minute through Defty's penalty after Danny White's shot was blocked by an advancing defender's arm in a rather dubious decision from the man in the middle.
Lynn controlleded long periods of the half but failed to capitalise on their dominance.
Fifteen minutes before the interval, Street produced his first piece of brilliance when he acrobatically kept out Stead's effort from a Mark Jones centre.
Street again foiled Stead on the stroke of half-time to maintain Town's slender advantage.
The hosts did beat Street shortly after the restart when Stead's effort crashed back off the woodwork.
Midway through the half, it was Stead who was thwarted again when Street turned his goalbound effort wide for a corner.
Defty calmed the nerves of more than 200 Lynn travelling supporters, who had helped smash the attendance record at Chestnut Avenue by 150, with a brave finish following a run and coss from second half substitute Steve Spriggs.
Star were again left frustrated by Street's goalkeeping masterclass, and perhaps his best save of the match, six minutes from time when he denied Jones with his legs in a one-on-one situation.
