King's Lynn 2 Marine 3
28th September 2013
King's Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell promised to ring the changes at the back after seeing his side suffer their third successive home defeat.
Setchell was furious with his rearguard, who have now shipped 16 goals in their last five league and cup games, as Marine went home with the three points in an encounter where Lynn were the better side.
An angry Setchell pulled no punches on the final whistle, saying: "I'm not going to make excuses. At the end of the day I've got to get the players in who can do the job.
"Marine are a good side and pretty on the eye, but we've gifted them three goals.
"Teams are coming to The Walks for a day out and a jolly boy's outing as we are easy to play against defensively.
"I've got to bring players in who can defend our box better. Players don't mean to make errors, but we've made 12 mistakes in 270 minutes of football."
Marine took the lead on 20 minutes when Andy Fowler was given space and fired home from some 30 yards past a motionless Alex Street.
Lynn looked for the equaliser their early play deserved but the visitors' keeper Ryan McMahon pulled off a double save to deny first Thomson's shot and then Jacob's headed rebound.
With four minutes of the first half remaining Lynn got their equaliser when Phil Gulliver headed home Thomson's corner.
The early second half chances fell to Lynn, the first saw Jacob's effort pushed wide by McMahon and the second ended when Mill's run was stopped by John Shaw.
Rob Duffy dispatched the resultant penalty to give Lynn a 2-1 lead.
For a while it looked as if Lynn would go on to make the game safe.
Jones, Duffy and Jacob all threatened in a goalmouth scramble but Marine levelled on 61 minutes when Lynn failed to clear and Fowler scored his second of the afternoon from just inside the area.
Lynn had appeals for a penalty turned down when McMahon appeared to up-end Jacob.
The scoring was completed on 73 minutes.
Lynn once again failed to get rid of the ball and although Street denied Fowler his hat-trick the resulting cross was headed home by the unmarked Will Jones.
Lynn had chances for an equaliser with Andy Hall and Jason Lee heading over but it wasn't to be and Lynn slumped to another home league defeat.
