King's Lynn 0 Morecambe 0
29th March 1981
LYNN suffered the ominous sight of player-manager Keith Rudd being helped off the pitch with a suspected hamstring injury in this goalless draw on Sunday. Rudd suddenly pulled up, clutched the top of his leg and fell to the ground ten minutes into the second half. He was replaced by Phil Ward.
Lynn found the visitors a difficult nut to crack, launching raids on the opponents' goal but never quite, finding the finishing touch.
Both teams did well to keep their feet on a wet and muddy surface. The first half saw an exciting five minute period in which both sides came close to scoring.
Dawson hit a long cross which Ringwood was glad to put away for a corner. Then Adams had a header brilliantly knocked away by Dobson in the Morecambe goal.
Wright had. a headed attempt cleared off the line before Morecambe's Parry saw his shot palmed on to an upright by Ringwood.
The Lynn goalie was again called in to action to make saves from two shots hr Jones before the break. Morecambe applied pressure early in the second half and Haslam blasted a shot just wide with one of the best scoring chances of the match.
A minute later, a shot from Parry went past the Lynn keeper but hit the post and the hall rebounded away. A brave save at the feet of Duncan Wiles by Dobson foiled Lynn after a neat move by Chapman. then Watts twice went close with shots.
no pushed hard for goal in the closing minutes and Adams was unlucky nut to score. Appeals for a penalty when Chapman went down in the box fell on deaf ears.
