Milton Keynes 1 King's Lynn 3
29th Ocotber 1974
Tuesday's win at Milton Keynes pushed the Linnets in third spot in the Southern League table.
They climbed up twelve places during October and have now put together six successive league wins.
It was a test of the team's character when, after taking an early lead, they were pulled back to 1-1 through a questionable penalty decision.
But they did not let Milton Keynes off the hook and two second half goals settled it.
Malcolm Lindsay put Lynn ahead in the 14th minute. When a free kick from Jim Gribbles was weakly punched away by 'keeper Ballard, Lindsay was waiting and turned in a bouncing shot which evaded the desperate goal-line lunge of a defender.
In the 25th minute tall centre forward Weeks appeared to "take a dive" in the penalty area and duly won a penalty. Harris pushed his shot strongly past Haistead to level the scores.
Lynn defenders were angry at the decision and afterwards the referee and the player concerned seemed to agree that there had been a mistake.
Such incidents can throw a team out of stride, but Lynn settled down and regained the lead with a superb 529th minute goal. It was started by Richard Johnston near a corner flag, McCallum with a touch on put Easthall clear on the left. his centre was knocked down by Rudd and in thundered Jimmy Stewart with a cracking shot that gave Ballard no chance. Rudd, taking over from the injured Durant, looked sharp throughout the game, despite his lay-off.
Third goal came in the 78th minute. Nigel Richards, playing in place of flu victim Stu Reynolds, darted through the middle chasing Rudd's pass and he was fouled by Read. Lindsay knocked in the penalty for his 20th goal of the season.
On a bitterly cold evening Lynn had proved too hot for the lowly home side.
