The start of a new year and this game ticked all the right boxes. Lynn’s first away clean sheet of the season, the first league double, the first home league defeat for the Pilgrims, the first time Boston had failed to score in a home league game . . . and Lynn still top of the league!
It was the home team, however, that dominated the early play with Ross Barrows picking up a 4th minute booking for a foul on the dangerous Jake Wight but the resultant free kick from Brad Abbott went wide.
On 14 minutes Dayle Southwell’s shot from 18 yards went straight into the arms of goalkeeper Alex Street.
A crucial block by Rory McAuley to deny Dominic Knowles a shot on goal followed as the home side kept the bulk of possession.
Lynn took the lead on 28 minutes. Substitute Sonny Carey set up Adam Marriott who beat the offside trap score past Peter Crook from 18 yards for Lynn’s 50th league goal of the season.
Wright continued to cause problems for Lynn, Street doing well to palm the ball away his with Knowles and Martyn Woolford waiting.
Crook chested away an effort from Henderson but was beaten four minutes later after Michael Gash and Marriott set up Jordan Richards to score from some 20 yards..
Lynn grew in confidence and while the Pilgrims might have had the better of possession in the first half Lynn bossed the second half as the home team ran out of ideas.
Crook did enough to force Marriott to shoot wide on 53 minutes while, at the other end, Abbott fired high and wide three minutes later.
On 67 minutes Wright was thwarted by Street as he attempted to round him and in the following minute the home side did have the ball in the net but Jay Rollins’ finish from Knowles cross was offside.
Substitute Jordan Thewlis had a good chance on 74 minutes after the Lynn defence had failed to clear but he shot well over.
Lynn wrapped the game ten minutes from time when a dreadful kick from Crook fell to Marriott who advance and then squared the ball for Gash to complete the scoring.
