King's Lynn Town cruised to the fourth round of FA Trophy after a 3-1 win against Alfreton Town and look forward to a visit to Hornchurch next month.
With Alfreton's pitch waterlogged Basford United's 3G pitch was the scene for Lynn to show that their quality of finishing was the difference between the sides although the margin of victory could have been greater.
Lynn could not have asked for better start when Adam Marriott slotted home in the third minute following a Chris Smith through-ball.
The remainder of the half ebbed and flowed with Lynn having the better chances.
Alfreton's best chance of the opening period came on 15 minutes when Adam Lund's long throw was met by James Jones at the near post but his flick header went across the goal with no one to apply a simple finish.
Smith managed to get a headed effort in on 24 minutes following Michael Clunan's free kick but it went over and further efforts followed from Marriott and Kairo Mitchell that were blocked.
Archie Mair produced his first save from Connor Branson on 32 minutes following a Lund throw.
Lynn continued to dominate after the restart with Mitchell being the first to warm the hands home keeper George Willis.
Lynn had to wait until the 67th minute to increase their lead, Mitchell's cross-field ball finding Marriott to poke home.
Sonny Carey then set up Ross Barrows for a shot then went across goal and wide and then Mitchell got a shot in that went straight at Willis.
Somewhat out of the blue Alfreton pulled a goal back through Bobby Johnson, his shot from just outside the area taking a bounce which seemed to deceive Mair.
Carey then had a shot that hit the underside of the bar and might have gone in but somewhere in the build-up there was an offside.
With five minutes remaining Barrows made the game safe with close-range finish after Carey's shot had been parried.
