Adam Marriott’s 50th goal for the club on 74 minutes against an enterprising Gateshead side was enough to see Lynn maintain their place at the top of the league.
Lynn made changes to the team that removed Hereford from the FA Trophy in midweek with Tom Ward and Ryan Jarvis returning to the starting eleven and Aaron Jones and Sam Kelly dropping to the bench.
Gateshead took the game to Lynn in the early stages with Dominic Tear forcing Alex Street into a good save on eight minutes and JJ O’Donnell firing over two minutes later.
Adam Marriott had Lynn’s first real chance on the quarter hour but his effort from some 30 yards was well off target and shortly after he filed to connect with Chris Henderson pullback.
At the other end Tear put a dangerous cross over the bar and O’Donnell shot just wide from 20 yards.
The lively Josh Kayode tried to take advantage of a Lynn defence that was looking a little shaky but his effort following a Rory McAuley mistake was deflected wide by Ward’s block.
Lynn did manage to get the ball in the net on 35 minutes only for it to be ruled out for a foul on the keeper and just before the break
McAuley got on the end of a Michael Gash knockdown but his half-volley from outside of the box flew over.
Kayode had the first notable chance on 56 minutes when he broke through for a one-on-one with Street only to see his shot well saved by the Lynn keeper diving down to his left.
Gash had a free kick that went straight into the wall and Marriott had a low shot which lacked sufficient power to trouble Bradley James in the visitor’s goal.
The introduction of Sam Kelly and Sonny Carey turned the game for in Lynn with the two linking up for Carey to shoot just wide within minutes of their introduction and than Kelly seeing his shot turned away for a corner soon after.
The deadlock was broken on 74 minutes, Kelly playing the ball through to Marriott to slide home past James.
Gateshead did have the ball in the net on 90 minutes direct from a corner only for it be ruled out for a foul on Street
