Merthyr Town Away Coach – Saturday 17th October

Supporters' coach travel for the trip to Merthyr Town is now available to book.

The coach will leave The Docherty Walks Stadium at 8:00am and tickets are £30.

As with the other away coaches, it will only run if the minimum number of bookings is reached. If that number isn't met, everyone who has booked will receive a full refund.

This is obviously one of the longer trips of the season, so if you are thinking of going it would really help to book as early as possible and hopefully get the coach confirmed nice and early.

Date: Saturday 17th October
Departure: The Docherty Walks Stadium – 8:00am
Price: £30

Book online here:

https://kingslynnfc.ticketco.events/uk/en/e/supporters_coach_travel_vs_merthyr_town

Long trip, but a much easier one if we can get enough people on the coach.

Just giving this one a bump as the numbers are moving in the right direction.

There are now 25 tickets sold for the Merthyr Town away coach.

If you're thinking of going but would rather pay cash, Adam and Wayne will be in the Blue & Gold Bar before Saturday's home game against Buxton and can take coach bookings there.

Online booking is still available here:

https://kingslynnfc.ticketco.events/uk/en/e/supporters_coach_travel_vs_merthyr_town

25 already booked — hopefully we can keep adding to that and get a really good following down to Merthyr.

Merthyr Town away – Saturday 17th October

This is one of the longer away trips of the season, but the good news is the supporters coach is running and, at the time of posting, there are only around 3 or 4 seats left.

The coach leaves The Docherty Walks Stadium at 8:00am.

If you still want one of the remaining seats:

https://kingslynnfc.ticketco.events/uk/en/e/supporters_coach_travel_vs_merthyr_town

Merthyr Town play at:

Penydarren Park
Park Terrace
Merthyr Tydfil
CF47 8RF

Kick-off is 3pm. ([1])

The following places to eat/drink and travel information have been generated by AI as usual (and where it found the information).

TL;DR plan

* Coach: leaves The Walks at 8am and is almost full.
* Tickets: Adults £16, Seniors £13, Students £12, ages 6–16 £6, Under-6s free. Buying online saves £1. ([1]) ([2])
* Parking: there is effectively no general supporter parking at Penydarren Park. Use Castle Street Multi-Storey or College Car Park, around a 5-minute walk away. ([2])
* Saturday council parking: only £1 all day. ([3])
* At the ground: recent Saturday games have had Webleys Bar and Romans Bar open from 12:30, plus the Food Kabin and Holvey's Café. ([2])
* Best town-centre pub: Y Dic Penderyn – Wetherspoons, open from 8am, food available and around a 10-minute walk from the ground. ([4]) ([5])
* Best traditional pub: The Winchester – opens from 10:30am and specialises in Rhymney Brewery beers. ([6])
* Best proper meal: The New Crown or Dav's Kitchen in the town centre. ([7]) ([8])

Tickets

Merthyr's current 2026/27 admission prices are:

* Adult – £16
* Senior 65+ – £13
* Student – £12
* Age 6–16 – £6
* Under 6 – FREE. ([1])

The club say supporters can save £1 per ticket by buying online. ([1])

Pay on the gate is also available, with Merthyr now accepting cash and card at the turnstiles. ([2])

Tickets:

https://ourclub.zone/merthyr-town-fc/fixtures

For their recent league games, Merthyr have opened the gates at 12:30pm for a 3pm kick-off. ([2])

Parking

This is the main thing for anybody driving.

There is very limited parking at Penydarren Park and the available spaces are generally already reserved for season-long permit holders, plus a small number of disabled spaces. ([2]) ([9])

So don't drive to the ground expecting to find a public car park.

Merthyr recommend:

Castle Street Multi-Storey Car Park

or

College Car Park

Both are around a 5-minute walk from Penydarren Park. ([2])

The really good bit is that Merthyr Tydfil Council currently charges just:

£1 ALL DAY on Saturdays. ([3])

So parking in the town centre and walking to the ground looks by far the easiest option.

Traffic enforcement officers regularly patrol around Penydarren Park, and the club specifically ask supporters not to park inconsiderately around residential streets. ([9])

At the ground – food and drink

Merthyr look pretty well set up for anyone on the coach who doesn't want to wander off into town.

For their recent Saturday league games:

* Webleys Bar – open from 12:30.
* Romans Bar – normally open from 12:30.
* Food Kabin – hot food, refreshments and alcoholic drinks.
* Holvey's Café – additional hot food and refreshments. ([2])

The exact arrangements can change from match to match — Romans Bar has occasionally been closed for private functions — so I'll update this thread if Merthyr put out anything different specifically for our game.

Recent unsegregated games have allowed both home and away supporters into Webleys and Romans. ([2])

So if the coach gets there around lunchtime, bar → food → football could be the easiest plan of the day.

Town centre pubs

Penydarren Park is very close to Merthyr town centre, so unlike some away grounds there is actually a decent choice within walking distance.

Y Dic Penderyn
102–103 High Street
Merthyr Tydfil
CF47 8AP

Probably the easiest all-round option.

It's a Wetherspoons and opens at 8am on Saturdays, with food available for most of the day. ([4]) ([5])

It has:

* Food.
* Plenty of beer.
* TV screens/projector.
* Outdoor seating.
* Town-centre location.

The away-pub guide puts it at around an 8–10 minute walk from Penydarren Park. ([10])

So for anyone arriving early by car, I would probably go:

Town-centre parking → Y Dic Penderyn → Penydarren Park.

The Winchester

Another interesting option and probably the one to choose if you want a proper local pint rather than Wetherspoons.

CAMRA describe it as a traditional town-centre pub specialising in reasonably priced Rhymney Brewery beers. ([6])

Saturday opening is listed as 10:30am until midnight.

It also has sports TV, although children aren't admitted. ([6])

Food options

If you want something better than football-ground food before the match, there are plenty of choices in the town centre.

The New Crown
28 High Street

Pub/restaurant with a full food menu and bar.

It opens from 12 noon on Saturdays and is well regarded for food, including burgers, steaks and other pub/restaurant dishes. ([7])

There is also a council-owned car park with direct access to the pub. ([11])

Dav's Kitchen
62 High Street

More of a proper restaurant than a football pub.

Saturday opening is 12 noon, with food served through the afternoon. ([8])

So probably one for anyone driving down early and wanting lunch first, football second.

For coach travellers

This is a long trip, so the exact amount of pre-match time will obviously depend on traffic and whatever comfort stop the driver makes.

The coach leaves The Walks at 8am.

I would expect a stop somewhere during the journey, but as usual the location and timing will be down to the coach driver.

Once we arrive, there are basically two plans:

Option 1 – least hassle

Stay at Penydarren Park.

Webleys/Romans bars and food facilities should give us everything needed before kick-off.

Option 2 – town centre

If we arrive with plenty of time, Merthyr town centre is close enough to walk to/from the ground.

Y Dic Penderyn or The Winchester would be my pub choices.

For drivers

I would not bother trying to park at the football ground.

Instead:

1. Head for Castle Street Multi-Storey or College Car Park.
2. Pay £1 for the entire Saturday. ([3])
3. Walk into the town centre for food/drink if wanted.
4. Penydarren Park is around 5 minutes from the recommended parking. ([2])
5. Leave the car there until after the game.

That's actually a very good parking setup for an away game.

Simple coach plan

1. Leave The Walks at 8am.
2. Comfort stop somewhere en route.
3. Arrive in Merthyr early afternoon, traffic permitting.
4. Either use Webleys/Romans and the ground food or walk into town.
5. Kick-off 3pm.
6. Back on the coach for the rather long trip home.

Simple driver plan

1. Head for Merthyr town centre rather than Penydarren Park.
2. Park at Castle Street / College Car Park.
3. Pay £1 all day.
4. Y Dic Penderyn / Winchester / food in the town centre.
5. Walk the short distance to Penydarren Park.
6. Kick-off 3pm.

Best options at a glance

* Coach: Almost full – only around 3/4 seats remaining.
* Departure: The Walks – 8am.
* Adult ticket: £16 on the gate, £1 cheaper online.
* Best parking: Castle Street / College Car Park.
* Parking price: £1 all day Saturday.
* Best easy pub: Y Dic Penderyn.
* Best traditional pub: The Winchester.
* Food option: The New Crown / Dav's Kitchen.
* At the ground: Webleys, Romans, Food Kabin and Holvey's Café.
* Kick-off: 3pm.

A long old trip — probably one of those where £30 for the coach starts looking increasingly good when you think about doing all that driving yourself.

And with only 3 or 4 coach seats left, if anyone is still thinking about it, probably best not to leave it much longer.
