Thank you Mr Cleeve
« on: August 01, 2024, 04:20:49 PM »
As a life long (from the mid 1950's) 'Linnet' supporter, i am delighted that Adam Lakeland appears to be about to deliver what he promised when he joined the club and i was particularly encouraged by his recent comment in a Lynn News article: -

"Adam Lakeland wants to restore a connection between the club and the town, by turning his side into a promotion-challenging outfit next season." Though i am with him all the way on this, i so wish the club owner was of a similar 'connecting with the town' mindset.

Perhaps there was a time when i would have turned a blind eye towards such as anonymous sponsors (how contradictory is that statement?!) and mysterious overseas investors, plus inflated admission prices. But to me now it all adds up to a prevailing attitude that treats supporters as customers, most of whom are obviously deemed to be of limited intelligence. Pay up and don't ask too many questions is seemingly the strategy.

At the age of nearly eighty, i can understand that Mr Cleeve would not view me as even a medium term investment but the level of disdain shown towards many older supporters really sticks in my craw, to the point where principle comes into play: though some might view this as 'cutting of my nose to spite my face'? The ultimate irony though is that due to personal circumstance i have only been able to pay  occasional visits to The Walks in recent seasons. Now i can......but won't!

The build up to the match and the game itself used to be eagerly anticipated and was the high spot of my week. Regrettably no longer, for the reasons outlined above. Added to which it is not financially practical for me like many, to purchase a season ticket and yes, i can afford to pay the inflated uncompetitive admission price on the day but on a point of principle i won't. Example. Concession pricing: Lynn, standing £17 seated £19. Boston (a league above - in every sense!) standing £14, seated £15..

I will still follow the club's fortunes and post on this site, unless i am barred (!) but will continue to forgo that which i miss most!

Understand and agree with sone of what you are saying.  I guess you are not really a high priority on the Clubs target list….. However.

What would SC and the Club in general need to do to entice you back to the Walks, so you would attend when you felt fit and able ?
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

Hi Mallard

Pricing is an issue but not just of itself. To me it is illustrative of a bigger problem. A prevailing attitude towards customers / supporters that borders on disdain. All i would add is just look across The Wash. Chalk and cheese!

Limited intelligence?

Are these one and the same as "the buffoons" once mentioned in a match day program?

First they fascinate the fools, then they attempt to gag the intelligent.

Only the names have been changed etc etc?

Being a life long supporter, like Rod, I totally agree with his comments re the Club owner's attitude towards his 'customers'.

However, to support the efforts of AL and his team on and off the field, I will pay the required entrance fee through gritted teeth in the realisation that SC doesn't have in him the capacity to change.

As the saying goes ' Do bears walk in the woods?'

Maybe the message is getting through.  SC seems to have kept a low profile throughout the summer.  Allowing AL to step up to the plate as the face of the Club.   Seems like people are buying into his straight forward non BS talking.

Can SC allow himself to stay in the background ?  I guess Saturday week’s EDP will tell all

Everyone must make their own decision, I guess Rod. As Kenny suggests, I believe it's highly unlikely that things will change in the way you desire, but I guess you never know. I have supported Lynn from the late 60's, but having moved out of Lynn, haven't been a regular attendee at The Walks for some time now, (Round trip of 120 miles/3hours). You do miss that special Saturday feeling and the match-day atmosphere, but you can still feel connected by reading reports and interacting on here.

Pink, unfortunately I don't think you would experience that even if you attended the games.

Yes, it does seem a tad quiet on that front. I think its about 4 months since we last had a Podcast. Hopefully everything is ok with him as he did elude to an incident regarding his health while in an airport a few weeks back.

It could all be a plan, with AL being the voice of the club in future, with regards to the Media.

As you say Mallard, we'll get a better idea in the first EDP article of the season.

Must say it does feel more engaging to just hear about the Football side from AL and not hear of SC’s latest scheme ( there’s been a lot ).    Maybe people in and around the Club have had a word with him to take more of a backseat on SM and concentrate on getting on with things behind the scenes.

The last couple of Podcasts haven’t really offered that much and have been poor, content wise.  So maybe he’s knocked that idea on the head as well.  The test will be if he can either do the same with his paper Column or just keep it very focussed.

Maybe Joe will become the voice of the club, more likely perhaps if he is satisfied with his ROI?
