:laughcry: :laughcry: only fire my own H K. !

Just something that I feel may have been missed by some. We do after all have a good quality manager and AM, and they are both northern based. We are in a tough northern league and we often hear terms like northern grit. Nothing wrong with that at all, but it's only natural for fans to have a greater affinity with someone who comes from the area or move and settle here as Wright and Lindsay did. It may not be possible to have many in the squad, but if you could get one or two it makes a big difference to how fans buy into things. We have Finlay, who I believe has local connections....similar to Aaron Jones and Kevin Ready I guess. When a local lad does appear who could make the grade, it's important to see the whole package that that brings to the club and the fans.

The key is , I guess, nurturing and persevering with the local talent to hopefully get it up to step 2 standard....there is no doubt that Lynn fans get behind a local lad.

Think we have a few locally based players in the likes of Paul Jones and Kyle McFadden to name two.  It's great to have locally based players but only if they are good enough.  Then again do the local boys get as well looked after as lads from away ?
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it's all about ?

It's a conundrum for sure. At step 2 the gap down to the old reserve set up was always too big Hopefully the academy can do the job . If Fleetwood two leagues up from Lynn have a number in their academy that are useful at NLN or higher, then hopefully the Lynn academy can get the odd one through at least.

:watching: Have to say that in the past when local players turned out for KL the football world was very different with the only non English players featuring in Divisions 1-4 were Scots,Welsh or Irish players. If you look around now there is a huge number of foreign players plying their trade even down to non league football if I am correct there are a few at KL. If you extrapolate this then there are English players who if born 50 years earlier would now be playing league football thus giving opportunities to local players if they were good enough.
The world of football has changed, attendances are down apart from the premiership there is little or no little  loyalty to the club who employs you as agents are used to chase the holy grail of the £. Gone are the days when supporters finished work on Saturday lunchtime went to the pub for a pint and a pie then onto the match as my grandparents did. My Dad spoke queuing to get into the game and standing with 3-6 thousand to watch a game at the Walks.
Nowadays we regular supporters are rather like Dinosaurs as socially we haven't changed whereas many have deserted live football to pursue or take in other interests.
I fear for the future of local soccer.

Made his debut for AFC Sudbury yesterday

A Club with an eye for talent, so good luck to him.

The Club that sold Stokes to Aldershot who then sold him on to Bristol City for big money.
Question everything!

Yes, it will be interesting to see his progress.......he seems to have something about him and I have a sneaking suspicion that we will be mentioning him again in the future

Academies and "local lads" don't work at this level because if they are good enough they will be picked off by bigger clubs, which most are, at the level we're trying to achieve.  That system would only work if the crowd are happy to simply be better than Wisbech!

To Clubs at our level, there's much more to Academies than just finding a "Gem" to sell on.

For example most, if not all, will be local Lads, so there's a Community involvement.

Also, if handled correctly, there's a fair few Bob to be made out of it as well.

Local lads can work at this level. Jack Defty in his prime could definitely have played regularly. For those of a certain vintage i ask the question: who would you rather have leading the attack, Gold or Big Jack?!

Pink

Did Defty score over 20 goals in a season at step2 Rod ? I honestly can't remember.....more of a Ready, Coupe Trigger front line fan, myself.
