I confess to not having been to The Walks for quite a while, and just watch whatever is available on video. I’ve see enough, however, to wonder why Crane is always on the bench.  He appears to have some of the pace and skill that we completely lack on too many occasions, and he seems to fall into the trap suffered by Barrett when he was here and clearly the best player in the club at the time.  Managers often convince themselves that they possess some kind of tactical knowledge that makes them rely on their Subbuteo Board formations in which the most skilful players are surplus to requirements. It’s complete nonsense!  Successful teams are those that, believe it or not, actually pick their best players!  You might not win with them, but you sure as Hades won’t without them!

And of course, unlike Pep, they need a Plan B.

First they fascinate the fools, then they attempt to gag the intelligent.

This post is partly in response to AL questioning what the fans want. Well who knows whether AL, ever looks at this forum...we certainly know the media team do, so may.be things get passed down.......

I suspect AL may have been informed that the club is a sleeping giant , when he took over. Possibly also, if you get success on the pitch, crowds will come..eg York, more than 4,000.

However, I believe there are some strong requirements attached for any of this to even be partly true. Obviously what follows is just my take on things:

Firstly apart from maybe the solid core of 700 or so, supporters or would be supporters want to know what they are actually supporting before they commit on a regular basis......what is the plan, what is the intention, will the club be solvent going forward, if it did get promoted, could it actually afford to go up and stay up. If none of this information is available, then what is there to buy into or support ?

Secondly, fans at Lynn are used, in recent times to the club being up there....2 years ago 2nd on 93 points, 2 previous years National League, previous year, won the NLN. To get the crowd building you need consistent home performances....entertaining attacking football and wins, coupled with some pricing offers. There have been a number of false starts this year....start of a decent run, so crowd turns up in decent numbers and then a really disappointing performance when they are there. Those extra few hundred that were there on Boxing Day were there for the experience and/or to give it a try again........they weren't excited by the performance and therefore weren't vocal and probably won't be there again until there has been another decent run......that's just the way it works.

Sorry to be a voice of reason!!?  Last year we struggled big time and AL came in and saved us from relegation. This year, to think we might win the League is fanciful. You can’t transform a failing team into a championship winning side in less than one season…can you?  From the outset of this season a play-off place would have been an achievement and we’re in the mix for that. Let’s not get above ourselves. We’re not yet a club that could live in the National League itself. We need to build in all respects. All teams will drop points against so-called poorer teams - just look at Curzon yesterday. It will happen to us again before May as it will to others. Let’s just be positive.

If AL rather naively believed the club to be a 'sleeping giant' he obviously failed to undertake even rudimentary due diligence. Just a little research may well have called that belief into question? Perhaps though the remuneration and an opportunity to manage a full time team were the determining decision making motivators?

Agree with DougJR. We are 3rd in the league and doing as well as anyone could have reasonably expected. Should we gain promotion to the National League, the squad would need a big makeover, as what we have now would struggle.
We are no sleeping giant, never have been. Our ground hasn’t changed over the years and is far from inviting. I get the frustration from AL in his post match interview yesterday. He is passionate and wants to win games. It looks like Johnson is heading back and his loan spell has ended, maybe AL could get a forward on loan. Omotayo isn’t in his plans as he just doesn’t score enough goals for a number 9.
Boxing Day and New Years Day always attract bigger attendances, just see how many will be at Scunthorpe, and it isn’t because we will be in town.
As for what the fans want, probably attractive attacking football without inflated prices to sit in a shabby and unclean stand.

For me it seems AL builds a team that is hard to breakdown.  After all if you don’t concede you don’t lose.  Taylor playing in a midfield role is a prime example.   Ok Saturday they shipped two against a team who I believe will get relegated this season.  For me the issues lay at the top end of the field.  Margetts will score goals IF he gets the service.  Gold can’t get serious game time.  Is Lakeland now seeing what everyone told him when he signed him.  The guy is a big unit but could trap a bag of cement.  His hold up play is nowhere near this level.    Then we come to the other striker on the books, Williams.  One question.  Why on earth was he signed.?

AL seems happy to grind results.  On the road that’s great.  Any point on your travels is a precious one.  However at home the fans want excitement  not the four, turgid stuff  t like what was served up on Boxing Day

How can a team destroy a side like top of the League Kidderminster 4-0, yet play out a poor ‘Desmond’ against a side of the standard of Needham Market ?  Is it a motivational problem or have we a few too many Billy Big Bollicks in our squad who think teams are just going to lay down and hand us the points ?

Lakeland said in his post match we didn’t get out of 2nd gear.  Maybe he should be more concerned with that than offering criticism to people who spend their hard earned for him to enjoy the benefits that he is given  at this Club.

I truly believe at step 2 us fans were spoilt under Culverhouse.  His part time teams in terms of entertainment were streets ahead of AL’s full time  line-ups

What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

No pllayoff...please!
Against one of the bottom clubs....no real goal threat, Margetts  not the player he was....will probably have to hopefully rely on playoffs. I know we are still up there! But not dominating teams below us. Not good enough to move up to National League.
