Lynn 1 Retford United 2
The rules for the league cup require eight players from the squad of the previous game to be included. Lynn achieved this with Carl Heggs making the eighth man, although he took a seat in the stand.
Danny Spencer was the only player in the starting line-up who had started against Salford whilst Retford fielded a team thatb was nearer to full strength.
Not surprisingly the visitors started the stronger with Lee Holmes having the best chance in the opening 15 minutes but he put over and then Paul Ellender clipped the bar.
Lynn began to settle with Nelson Morriera causing the visitors problems and Darryl Rose hitting the bar.
On 40 minutes Lee Thompson was adjudged to have pulled back Morreira and Danny Spence scored from the resulting spot kick.
Morriera, however, was not to reappear after half time and the visitors began to get on top - Ally McAnally parried Neil Harvey's piledriver but could do nothing about the 70th minute penalty.
Retford substitiute Harvey tumbled in a back post collision with Spencer and Matthew Gilchrist and Marrison scored from the spot.
Lynn continued to hang on but with extra time looming Stephen Harvey handled Bettney's deep cross and Marrison once agin obliged from the spot.
