How is it that the majority of teams in our league can afford to charge a lower concession price? As a professed community minded / caring club, surely a little more consideration might be shown to the elderly and/or infirm?

Although the club have the massive advantage of only paying a peppercorn rate for the ground (apparently it's more expensive to hire a pitch for a Saturday afternoon at River Lane than the rent on the Walks.........at the end of day, taxpayers subsidising things), we have to assume other costs must be higher. Some of these costs are of the Clubs own making.

The DCMS loan for one. The Club decided to take that, not the supporters.

The Clubs choice to operate a full time squad.

TSI wanting their money back. I don't suppose anyone other than Bal or Jo knows if that's being paid back yet, but it could be.

The apparent arrangement Bal said he had come to with HMRC. Presumably that means paying off arrears that had occured. No idea if that's all cleared up now.

Most Clubs at this level that have a Benefactor won't have a CEO to pay. Even if our CEO is not employed by the Club but via TSI, presumably this cost will have to be recouped. That can't be cheap!

Probably other matters not covered here.

So, it's the supporters that have to incur the higher costs, and from what I have learned over recent months, also the taxpayer where  possible (ie Grants are not "free money"....they usually come via the tax payer).

I suppose it's all logical to some.   :dontknow:
Question everything!

We've always had  more expensive concession prices compared to other teams, even in the UCL.!

Good 🌴 beach!

Following things to do made by AI (as normal AI quotes it's sources) - but it does mention the sea front, but not sure it'll be beach weather.

South Shields is a friendly away and the coach drops you right by the action at 1st Cloud Arena (NE32 3UP). Here's a tidy plan for pubs, quick eats, and parking.

Near the ground (walkable from coach drop)

Tam's Bar (Shaftesbury Ave, 5–10 mins) – closest proper pub to the stadium; matchdays often busy with fans.
WhatPub
CAMRA - The Campaign for Real Ale

Club bar – "New Stand Bar" (inside 1st Cloud Arena) – modern sports bar; handy for a last pint right before the turnstiles.
South Shields FC

Quick eats next to the ground

McDonald's (NE34 9QD, Simonside/John Reid Rd area) – the nearest guaranteed fast option.
McDonald's

In-stadium kiosks – pies/burgers/chips; card & cash taken.
Chorley FC

(If you've loads of time and fancy town/sea-front instead, jump a quick taxi/Metro to Ocean Road or the seafront: The Marine (award-winning ale bar) and a run of curry houses on Ocean Road are the picks — just leave ~15–20 mins to get back.)
the-marine.co.uk

Likely timings (coach leaves The Walks 08:30)

Journey is a bit over 4 hours plus a 45-min stop, so expect to be around the ground roughly 13:30–14:15. For a 3pm KO that's perfect for Tam's → club bar → turnstiles.
Grimsby Town Football Club

Drivers – parking & simple plan

Parking: The club advises Shaftesbury Avenue and an overflow at the nearby Barbour store; many clubs also recommend Bedesway/Bede Trade Park (signed on the day). It can be busy close to KO, so aim a little early.

Football Ground Guide

Driver's quick flow: Park → short walk to Tam's for one → stroll to the ground (5–10 mins).
WhatPub

Handy to know

Ground address & finding it: 1st Cloud Arena, Shaftesbury Ave, NE32 3UP (Bede Metro is the nearest stop if anyone breaks off to town).
South Shields FC

The club also runs food/catering on matchdays and has multiple bars on site now the new stand is open.
