Sadly with many Clubs at all levels, the pathway is Academy, first team squad, loan, deemed not good enough and then out.

As Mall says, a sad decision on many levels for the club, losing one of the few bright lights of last season and blowing a hole is SC's stated model for the club in terms of bringing players through and selling them on at a profit but can't blame the lad for wanting to play, wish him all the best wherever he goes.

Brings into question what the real goal is in terms of an academy.   Also just another one of our Chairman’s ideals that for whatever reason don’t actually work.  Or in a lot of cases never get off the Ground.

Summer Concert’s anyone ?  Or perhaps a tie up in Gibraltar that’s going to put Kings Lynn on the map ?  There are soooooo many others that never got beyond the infamous table.  Not forgetting the big idea of January that was going to fill the gap in terms of funding.

This must be the primary motivator??? I can recall a time when we had a reserve team, most of which was made up of local lads who had started playing in local leagues, several of whom made it through to the first team. That route was seemingly far more productive in bringing players through than the current academy set up. Setch at Corby is to a degree now fulfilling that role, so i wonder if this is where Ben might be headed?

Very sad indeed.......but this is what happens if players are vying for a place, but don't get opportunities....so important to use the squad you have..........sort of player Peterborough Sports turn into a redoubtable NLN performer. I had hoped he would get 90 minutes V Cheshunt. There could be a few more asking for a way out if they don't get an opportunity soon. If you genuinely believe that using anyone in the squad doesn't weaken your side, then you must action that and not just say it if you want to keep a squad together

One key thing that I feel has been missed under the current Chairman's reign is the importance of a few local lads in the squad, that the Lynn faithful can relate to as one of their own.......looking back at times when there was a greater sense of community within the club, there was always at least one or two....Richard Johnston,Keith Rudd,Freddie Easthall, Mark Howard,Kevin Ready,Clive Adams, Neil Fryatt etc etc. Developing some local players through the academy and getting them playing in the eleven not only builds the link to the town, it also puts a few hundred on the gate. It's why it such a shame when local talent is missed or not nurtured and the likes of Sports or Corby or much bigger fish (Aldershot, Luton etc ) benefit.

In my opinion our chairman / owner has no real affinity with the town or club. His strategy is less about building an entity that connects with the local community but much more about pursuing a personal vanity project: as the owner of course he is perfectly entitled to do that.
    Don't overlook the fact that in reality we were a consolation prize, with Wrexham initially being his preferred option. How they must now be regretting rejecting his overtures?!
     I would love to go back to the days when local boys with ability gravitated to and were welcomed by their home down club, usually graduating from the 'A' team through the reserves and some, in addition to those you mention, like the Defty brothers and going much further back Mick Rains and Simon Bush, graduating to the first team. When they kissed the badge, they meant it !! Nowadays we recruit amongst others a player who failed last season at two National League clubs, so was pleased to 'come home'. I don't blame him but i would suspect the main attraction was retaining his full time status? Which surely calls into question the overall value of full time at this level when the majority of the competition are part time? An unproven theory but i believe that at our current level you are more likey to get players who are not wholly financially dependent on football to be more committed and perhaps play as much for the love of the game as the money?

For me supporting the club in those bygone days meant so much more. Maybe it is a generational thing and i acknowledge that it is impractical to have a predominantly local squad at this level but we now seem to discourage rather than encourage local talent unless they come through the academy.

Personally, i wish that i could turn the Linnet clock back!
