A Budget for nobody?
« on: October 31, 2024, 03:07:45 PM »
Following yesterdays budget, people will have their own opinions on what the budget is going to deliver, but I'm wondering how it will affect Football and in particulars cash strapped Clubs in NL, NLN and NLS?

With the onus of tax increases being placed firmly at the door of the business sector, many of whom are still trying to recover from the problems Covid gave them, followed by the current war in The Ukraine, any kind of increase in outgoings must make business owners feel as if they are being kicked while they are down.

How will it affect Full Time Non League Clubs? I presume that full time footballers are employed in the same manner as other employed people?  :dontknow:

If Clubs are running with a 20 plus playing staff, that's going to be one hell of a lot more money going out the door, at the same time as income revenues will continue to be restricted due to the general cost of living (and now also with the expected cost of mortgages increasing).

Will be interesting to see how  some of the Clubs Will
React to this.  Employers NI now rising to 15%. With the threshold now kicking in at £5k.  I guess Lynn are fortunate that we have had a decent increase in numbers coming through the gate and have a benefactor like Joe behind it all.   The new Commercial guy will hopefully be hitting the ground in November as well.

I feel other Clubs with bigger squads will be hit harder than us as we are running on an 18 man squad plus the Assistant Manager.
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

The increases in employer National Insurance means that employers will have to pay an ADDITIONAL £900 for each employee on median average earnings (circa £33,000 pa).

I doubt many of our squad are earning less than this, so I think it's fair to say than an extra (circa) £18,000 plus is going to have to be found, irrespective of Joe or anyone else picking up the tab!

And to think this lot jumped all over Boris just because he ate a sandwich during lockdown down! That event doesn't look quite so important now!

I seem to recall Boris's misdemeanors adding up to a bit more than eating a sandwich....but ....back to football.......a large part of the issue is of course the ridiculous amount of money paid out in the game now on players and the fact that not enough of the cash is shared out fairly down the pyramid.

Football at non league level never used to provide a full time Income for many players...now it's almost expected at step2 and step 1. However, with the ridiculous way that step 2 is set up, with no Midland division, its hard to see how a Norfolk team could be truly competitive, given the vast amount of travel required, without significant wages to compensate players.

There's other things that can help offset the problems of the  location of a Club.

The re set button was never pressed after COVID. Missed opportunity.

We never did see those EFL players on £400 a week at the Walks.   :laughcry:

Peppercorn rent ?

That's one thing and surely must be measured in the 10's of thousands. Money that other clubs don't have the benefit of , and offsets any additional money we may have to pay to tempt players to sign.
