This is from about 8 months ago, but I've only just come across it. I've not watched it all yet but some very interesting comments made in first 15 minutes. Seems a very honest appraisal to me.

Eastbourne owner. A club that's at same level as us with TW in charge and sitting 4th from bottom.

A couple of comments from the first ten minutes:

"I'm doing a brilliant job on marketing, a brilliant job on getting people through the gate, a brilliant job on social media, and I'm still a million miles from breaking even".

Forecast 2 million income, but 3 million expenditure.

He knows of a part time player who was offered to play at this level for a £50k golden hello (sign on fee), and £1,800 per week!

£1,800 per week????? What lunatic football club owner is even going to consider paying that for a player at this level?

Have a listen. I found it really interesting.

If you want players like Clunan that's what you need to pay each week

Linnet465

:scarf:  1800 per week = 94k plus add on costs probably ends up being 114k per annum .
Squad of 20 plus others wage bill nearly 3 million.
If 25 home games with £20 per entrant you need 6,000 entrants per game, even EFL teams will fold eventually paying that!

I think that this is quoted as an exception rather than the rule, but still goes to show how stupid football finances have become (as if we needed reminding).

Clubs need to play at the level their finances can afford. Play as high as you can with the money available, but no higher as it always ends it tears.

 :scarf: I agree.
Think the taxman will be visiting a few clubs this year that owe them money, especially as the Robber Reeves wants more than her fair share!

£1800 a week plus boot money does seem way over the top for this  level.  Let's not forget SC saying there were  players in the EFL on basic £400 week.

Maybe not £400 a week now but I'm sure there are players in the pro game on £25k a year, basic.

Around 25 former League Clubs, some desperate to get back into the EFL and will throw big money at the project. The rest are forced to hang on to the bigger Clubs coat tails.  Which is at a cost.

Very dangerous game  I would suggest if the total debt of all NL clubs (72) was added together it would be a frightening amount of money.  We only have to look at KL's

Proof if needed, that pumping vast amounts of money into a team is not the way to run a "successful" Club. i.e. one that is not judged by league position alone.

There's always going to be another Club Chairman that thinks he know's better than all the others that have been before them, and failed.

There'll always be another Chairman that will break the bank to get players signed on stupid money in the quest for glory.

It's a game that Clubs can't win.

Will the 3UP campaign, if successful, just encourage owners to pump more money into their clubs?

And of course, who ends up paying in the end?

Interesting listening to Simon Leslie  (Eastbourne owner) about how he feels streaming has a big part to play at his Club. SC was saying the same thing a few years back. Things like coverage being shown on You Tube is offering big bucks, going forward.  That's one area Lynn seem to have got a decent grip on. Quite like their coverage from players arriving right the way through the match.  Give a good insight into the match day experience.  Plus that must be generating a decent income stream for the Club. 😉

I don't know what a "decent amount" is, but I would think that every Club at this level is earning a bit from Youtube these days, and if they're not should ask themselves why. I know of a couple of clubs a couple of levels below us that get a few hundred in each year, which helps them out quite a bit.

With Jo's business history, I'm sure he'll be aware of this income stream and would expect to get something from it. If not, it would be a bit concerning.

If anyone is interested, its relatively easy to get a rough estimate of what any channel is generating income wise. I would presume that the Clubs Youtube channel is still regarded as being in its infancy and that it will develop further, but is probably generating £1,500 to £2,000 a year already.  :dontknow:   Not a fortune but not to be sniffed at either, especially as theres more to come as it develops and grows.

Business's that engage with Social Media and take the rough with the smooth tend to come out winners in all sorts of ways. Its only the Dinosaurs that get left behind.
