Lynn lose local Derby.
« on: January 25, 2025, 04:53:33 PM »
Ex Linnet Michael Gash's part time Turbines blow a hole in Lynn's automatic promotion hopes with a 3-1 win.

3 ex Linnets in Sports starting line up today.

With Chester, Scunny and Brackley winning, and Curzon and Kidderminster drawing,  Lynn were the only team in top 6 to loose today.

Lynn now sit in 5th position.

Probably the fault of the officials?

Those over at Peterborough always seem to have more fight in them for this fixture than the Linnets. I was not there today but, it’s the result I was expecting. We really have little chance against teams like this without a threat upfront.

Sports missed a pen as well.   Not a good day at the office.
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

You seriously have to question our full time status and lack of fit fire power. Too many times this season we have been humbled by lower opposition that simply want the points more than us.  :oldman"

Didn't AL say about 3 weeks ago that Margets injury was minor and he would be back by the following weekend?  :dontknow:

Elsewhere it was reported he would be out for at least 3 weeks.

Something doesn't seem right!

It would be nice to know what's really going on or maybe AL doesn't worry too much about not having a decent striker in the team (or even the squad).

The Margetts scenario seems to rumble  on and on.  The lad Williams was brought in as a striker back up. Yet even with Margetts and Gold injured he still doesn’t get a start. Begs the question what is his role in the squad ?

For me it feels like we have a bit of a soft underbelly, have to wonder how fired up Lakeland gets his team. Win ugly is no crime, especially at this time in the season.

January was a real chance to make a mark as we had a lot of the bottom half teams to play.  Rushall on Tuesday needs a massive response after today. AL needs to step up and earn his corn.

Al’s analysis didn’t quite make sense.  He recognised that P’bro’ had two forwards who were “mobile and quick”, then said the opponents played the game at a slower pace than we would want. Good job they did!  He should pick a team that is as quick and mobile as possible himself because it beats a stodgy defensive team 9 games out of 10…

With Coulson in the starting line up the last thing you need is two quick strikers in opposition.
Quick  and willing just shows how Gash has got his players ‘at it’

Not for the first time i question the value of full time at this level and the Club's attitude over recent times towards local players. Apparently Gash and Fryatt were magnificent at the heart of the PS defence. Gash would likely still be with us had we remained part time and Ryan Fryatt along with Joe Taylor and Fletcher Toll were not deemed to be 'good enough' ?!

Well I have to completely agree Rod. We have been second best to Sports in derbies for a while now and obviously cant handle them, Alfreton or Farsley currently. A promotion winning team would hope for 4 points against those sides over a season, so 12 points in all.....with one game to go we have 1 point from the 12.

Sports are part time and have low attendances, yet are mid table. Can one really justify the extra expense of being full time when one looks at the table ? If and when Lynn get promoted they will need almost a whole new squad anyway, so it's not like being full time now, helps going forward, does it ?

If we haven’t got recognised forwards in the starting team, is it any wonder that we struggle to score goals. Just as TW kept bringing in non forwards when we were struggling to score, AL brings in a defender. Yes, I get that it’s not easy to find a proven goal scorer, but without one or indeed any striker at all, we won’t win too many games. Peterborough Sports must have looked at our line and been pleasantly surprised. Imagine getting into the playoffs and playing the likes of Scunthorpe when we field no forwards, the result would be embarrassing, a bit like Kidderminster.
If AL is serious about promotion then he needs to address the current lack of a forward situation. If he is ‘the best manager in the league’ which I don’t think he is, then he would have contacts. Agree too, with the full time team, if we don’t go up this season then I can see us reverting back to part time. I’m sure some of the players are only here because they are getting paid full time wages.
