General Discussion / Re: NEW MANAGER: Paul Caddis
March 05, 2026, 09:49:21 PM
I wish the new manager good luck, but I wonder what made the club make such a quick decision.  They all say they bring energy, character, and experience, but cliches don't provide success. They need good players, and the ability to attract them.  Then 10 men behind the ball when they haven't got it, and 7 of them going up when they have! That's it!  We'll have to rely on luck until we've got 'em!....

Unfathomable!  No Crane... No Williams... No Doherty.... No clue?....  Very poor display yesterday.  Very difficult last 3rd of season.  Fingers crossed we cling on!....

They all get sacked in the end!  It's because whatever decent players their club has all get grabbed by bigger more monied clubs.  Building a team and keeping it is virtually impossible.  Managers make little difference....

Much more mobile selection that looked quicker than in most games, and deserved something from a promising first half.  Same for first quarter of 2nd half, but Alfreton slowly took the upper hand as we faded, not in effort but in penetration. Badly need a controller in midfield and a goalscorer up front.  Worrying and promising at the same time!  We have a very difficult fight to stay up...

Agree with M A H on Williams.  A real on the ground player which is where the best players play....

Wilson, yes.  Williams,as usual.  Force-Brown and Doherty did ok, and do look to have skill.  We will stay up when everyone is fit and available, but might not if not.  Need more skill in midfield and a slippery goalscorer, with Adam M still capable if the midfield is improved to give him opportunities.... Just my opinion!

I disagree about the potential of the fan base.  The club have one of the areas in the country in which there is virtually no competition for support from other clubs.  Geographically, that provides food for optimism. However, I don't believe that potential can be realised without a distinct lift in professionalism and organisation behind the scenes, and a real improvement in the facilities which I believe would provide more chance of attracting players.

The Dillathon computer has deduced that the Manager is wrong to blame the players, and us punters are wrong to blame the Manager. He needs to know players who are better, and the money to attract them.  We are doing as well as possible with a set that lacks creative players, but that can't change until both problems are cured. It's good enough to survive when the injured return.  HNY to all at the club and supporters.

I believe "experience" is overrated.  IC should go for ability, not experience.  Chester appeared to be a young team with ability, at least what I could see through the dark combination of our not very good floodlights and the shirts colour clash...

Good comeback.  Didn't see the game as it was  hampions League night, but pleased with the points, and coming from behind.  Problem is the 3 newbies aren't going to be there in a month's time, so it is too early to be confident of improvement.  Onward and upwards?!...

They sound on paper exactly what we're missing.... Speed off the mark and skill - let's hope so!

Although my cynicism causes me to question what a head of football operations is, I should have read the news section first!  Still cynical, but "scouting" is certainly a job worth doing, as long as he doesn't just stay local....

I thought Marriott did look the level required, and I don't blame him for not scoring.  I think chances for strikers are few and far between because the lack of creativity in midfield doesn't engineer easier opportunities.  Not sure Ian's, or any manager's screaming from the sidelines has any effect at all, because good players know what's needed in changing situations on the pitch...

New blood needed, and ability more important than "experience"....

Strange game.  We looked better than usual throughout the first half, and comfortably the better side.  But - even then they showed they had a lot of speed in their line-up.  In the 2nd half, their speed took over.  I don't think I've ever seen a more deserved comeback. You could see that they really believed they could turn it around, & made sure they were quicker and more mobile than us to do it.  Crane, however was my MotM.....
