General Discussion / Re: First Team Management
October 14, 2025, 03:03:00 PM
Not sure a week to week basis is fair to Joe, the players or the supporters.

Can see the scenario that if the team were to get beat badly at home Saturday would Bal then we scrambling around looking for someone to come in. Feel
He has had time to assess the market to look at what's available and who might fancy it.

At least with Cleeve he was always proactive and made a decision.  Bal just comes across of not knowing which way to turn for the best.

Is this really the deal the Trust members voted on.?   I do wonder if they held the same vote tomorrow would they get the same result. All seems back of a fag packet with this new regime.

Why can't the external person be named ?  Not James Rowe is it ?

TW has not been a well man so that could be one reason for him leaving The other could be a new job in the North East.  Hartlepool sacked Simon Grayson yesterday.  Think Widdler played at Pools for a while and he certainly originates from up that way.

We know contracts don't mean much to him.  With Tommy gone I wonder where that will leave the fruit of his loins?  Theo isn't that popular amongst Shots fans

No disgrace in a 4-2 defeat on the Road at a National League Club like Scunny. Little lack of experience at the back maybe cost us.

No doubt there will be lots of ideas on the table to be considered

Seems like this chap Bal is preparing to give Cleeve a good run for his money.

Maybe we should have been more careful what we wished for

Anyone else heard this rumour ?

Always seems Bal is more reactive than proactive.

I can help thinking of Rowe hadn't taken the job in the summer would Simpson have been 2nd choice ? No of course he wouldn't.

Normally when a manager 'leaves' the press release reads along the lines of ..... we are actively seeking a replacement and have had a high calibre of applicant approach the Club.

Interesting  post Vera.  Far more meat on that bone than we got from the Club's 2/3 liner on the subject.

However I think the EDP coverage of the story leaving readers in little doubt.

I was more looking at things going forward in which way the Club is  going. Not been a mention of JS being given a trial period or if the Club are casting the net further afield with possible candidates being invited to apply or indeed invited to interview.

Over two weeks now and no follow up information coming out.

General Discussion / What’s the plan Bal ?

Two weeks have slipped by since Rowe's 'resignation' and all we have had is the curt message to advise us that the Manager is no longer with us.

No further explanation no uplifting words on what the next steps are.  No mention of interviews taking place or the  giving JS a trial period to see if he can step up to the mark.

Having a full time CEO surely we should expect something.  C'mon Bal wakey, wakey let's be having you. Where is all this community Club philosophy?

Quote from: John H on October 06, 2025, 04:52:46 PMMallard - do you rate Omotayo as a centre forward and how many goals would you expect our number 9 to score?
To date he has scored 2 goals, our right back has scored double that. Do you think that if Toll was fully fit and recalled from loan that he could play up front with both Omotayo and Gyasi.
Hopefully Omotayo can prove some people wrong and score the winner at Scunthorpe on Saturday, like he did at Doncaster.

Rate him John ?  I think he's ok and maybe the best we could get for that position with the 30% budget cut.  He certainly keeps central defenders on their toes and is idea for crosses that are stood up at the far post. Like I said best to focus on his strengths

The signing of Toll was made before Rowe was appointed and wasn't really given a look in as it seemed was not fancied by Rowe. Marriot, not sure who signed him but was always a gamble in terms of age and fitness.

This pre-occupation with Gold is interesting. Some really don't fancy him but remember Culverhouse, Widdrington, Lakeland and Rowe have all given him the no 9 shirt.  They can't all be wrong, can they?

Think we should concentrate on what he can do as opposed what he can't do.

The Club signed 4 strikers in pre-season in Gold, Toll, Gyasi and Marriott. Though these werent  all signed by Rowe.  The potential amongst the 4 was right up there. Sadly it's not worked out for all 4.

I really don't think there is too much wrong with the squad we have.  Maybe a solid, experienced ( for this level ) Central defender would be on my wish list. We have a lot of young players who will grow into the season.  We aren't really that far of the play-offs ( 7th) so if we hit those heights then has to be a decent season.

Rowe, for all his faults did leave a decent squad for the next Manager to work with.

It's now all in Bal's court where we go from here.  He does really need to get this one right. His chance to earn his corn.

Couldn't make today.  Holiday got in the way.

Think we have reached the point where we need to stick or twist with regard to Joe Simpson.

Big F A Cup game coming up next week, which as Joe indicated in his interview is really a free hit.   After this I think Bal has to earn his corn and make a firm decision on the way forward.

If he is going with JS then come out and back him. No good hiding in the shadows and being reactive when it goes wrong. Strong leadership is what I would like to see from him.

I do wonder now Rowe has gone will Grace ( media team) be invited back.  Some will will understand the question.
