King's Lynn Town 2 Rainworth Miners Welfare 0
EvoStik North Division One
Saturday 9th February
Lynn notched their 50th goal of the season and their fourth successive league win against the Wrens but were made to work hard for the points in a scrappy game.
Rainworth had a couple of free kick opportunities in the first half, most notably one from around 8 yards from the goal line after Ross Watson was adjudged to have played a deliberate back pass to Danny Gay.
Dan Quigley was quick to charge down Ryan Goward's effort.
Then Gay was on hand to deal comfortably with Ricky Hanson's curling set piece.
The best move of the first half belonged to Lynn when Steve Spriggs cross set up Shane Tolley but defender Sam Purcicoe did well to intercept.
Connor Higginson, Rainworth's most dangerous player throughout, fired over before Lynn took the lead from the penalty spot on the half hour. Tolley went down under Goward's challenge and the assistant referee signalled a foul. Spriggs obliged from the spot to net his 21st goal of the season.
Higginson then shot just wide before Rainworth had claims for a penalty shortly after when Yong appear to fall and handle the ball but nothing was given.
The opening play of the second half lacked excitement although the visitors were coming more into the game.
A direct freekick on 61 minutes went round the wall and had Gay beaten but it just missed the target.
A few efforts fell to Lynn with Quigley and then Tolley testing Barcherini.
Lynn introduced new signing Charlie Butt and six minutes later Lynn made the points safe when substitute Thomson's cross was headed on by Gulliver and Watson volleyed home from inside the six-yard box.
Butt nearly made it three in the 77th minute but his shot across goal missed the target by a matter of inches.
Blair Anderson, and then Higginson, almost grabbed a late consolation for the Wrens but their efforts were saved comfortably by Gay.
